Introduction to the full series of Bentley 3500 monitoring system

Rack module – 3500/05
Function: It houses all 3500 monitor modules and rack power supplies, allowing modules to communicate with each other. The System 1 software and power supplies allocate power to each module as needed, and it is an integral part of the Bently Nevada Turbine Supervisory Instrumentation (TSI) suite.
Features: Available in two sizes (standard 19″ and 14″), with three flexible installation formats (rack, bulkhead, and panel), as well as internal barrier options for hazardous areas. It also features a weatherproof enclosure to protect the system from adverse environmental conditions.
Power module – 3500/15
Function: As a half-height module, it must be installed in the designated slot on the left side of the rack. It can accept various high or low input voltages and convert them into the voltage required by the 3500 module, providing AC or DC power to the 3500. It includes a transient data interface, a separate monitoring module, and an input/output (I/O) module, as well as all connected sensors in the mechanical protection and condition monitoring system.
Features: The 3500 rack can accommodate one or two power supplies in any combination of AC and DC. Either power supply can supply power to the entire rack. When two power supplies are installed, the lower slot accommodates the main power supply, while the upper slot accommodates the redundant power supply, and both are “hot-swappable”.
Transient Data Interface Module – 3500/22M
Function: It serves as the core of the 3500 rack system, enabling the configuration of 3500 rack parameters and functioning as a gateway to the System 1 mechanical condition monitoring software platform.
Features: Equipped with a USB port on the front for easy configuration, and a 10/100 Ethernet connection on the rear I/O module for communication with System 1. The rack reset button on the front allows for physical resetting of alarms to lock configuration changes.
Keyphasor Module – 3500/25
Function: Provides phase reference information in a 3500 rack. Each 3500 rack can use up to four key phasors to receive input signals from proximity probes or magnetic sensors, and convert pulse signals for each revolution or multiple events per revolution into precise digital timing measurements, thereby enabling advanced mechanical diagnostics.
Features: It can be used to measure machine speed and vector parameters, such as 1X vibration amplitude and phase, which are crucial for determining important machine behavior. It also has multiple hazardous area and country-specific approvals, making it suitable for use in any environment.
Relay module
3500/32M
Function: Provides four relay outputs with a highly configurable relay logic interface. Each of the four outputs can be independently programmed, and voting can be enabled by configuring the alarm drive logic of each relay. All channels within the 3500 mechanical protection system can be used to drive complex logic.
Features: Provides an easy-to-use interface for highly configurable and/or logical combinations, including “normal” and “true” options, as well as voting options, and lockout and channel relay options.
3500/33
Function: Provides 16 relay outputs with a highly configurable relay logic interface. Each of the 16 outputs can be independently programmed, and voting can be enabled by configuring the alarm drive logic of each relay. All channels within the 3500 mechanical protection system can be used to drive complex logic.
Features: Provides an easy-to-use interface for highly configurable and/or logical combinations, including “normal” and “true” options, as well as voting options, and a per-channel latching relay option.
Monitor module
3500/40M Proximitor Monitor
Function: Accepts input from Bently Nevada 3300XL series Proximitor, seismic sensor conditioning signals to provide various vibration and position measurements, and compares the conditioning signals with user-programmable setpoints for alarm and relay logic in the drivable 3500 relay module.
Features: Each channel can be programmed using the 3500 rack configuration software to protect machinery and monitor conditions related to radial vibration, thrust position, differential expansion, eccentricity, acceleration, speed, shaft absolute value, and circular acceptance zone parameters. External termination and internal barrier versions are also available.
3500/42M Displacement/Vibration Monitor
Function: Provides four programmable channels for the 3500 system, accepts inputs from Bently Nevada Proximitor and Seismic sensors, then conditions the signals to provide various vibration and position measurements, and compares the conditioned signals with user-programmable alarms.
Features: Each channel can be programmed using the 3500 rack configuration software to protect machinery and monitor conditions related to radial vibration, thrust position, differential expansion, eccentricity, acceleration, speed, shaft absolute value, and circular acceptance zone parameters.
3500/45 position monitor
Function: Process signals from Bently Nevada 3300XL series Proximitor* sensors, Rotary Position Transducers (RPT), and AC and DC Linear Variable Differential Transformers (LVDT), condition the inputs, and compare the conditioned signals to user-programmable alarms, including axial (thrust) position, differential expansion (single ramp, dual ramp, or complementary), casing expansion, and valve position.
Features: These key measurements are part of the Bently Nevada Turbine Supervisory Instrument (TSI) series of sensors.
3500/50M Tachometer Module
Function: It features two channels capable of accepting inputs from Proximitor* probes or magnetic sensors to measure shaft speed, rotor acceleration, or reverse rotation. It adjusts the input and compares the adjusted signal with user-programmable setpoints, which can drive alarm and relay logic in the 3500 relay module.
Features: The alarm options provided by the 3500 rack configuration software include speed band, zero speed, rotor acceleration, and reverse rotation. It also offers external terminal and internal barrier versions, but it is not designed for overspeed detection.
Other modules
3500/53 Overspeed protection system
Function: It is a fast-response, triple-redundant overspeed voting system that can receive signals from displacement sensors or magnetoelectric sensors and be used to trigger alarms or shut down machines.
Features: Self-testing can be performed using an on-board frequency generator, with independent or dependent voting logic.
3500/94M VGA monitor
Function: The touchscreen display module displays important 3500 data in the machine or control room, featuring a color touchscreen and I/O module. It can display 3500 vibration levels, system and alarm event lists, as well as module, channel, and alarm data, along with nine customizable pages.
Communication Gateway Module – 3500/90
Function: Used for communication with external devices such as DCS (Distributed Control System) and PLC (Programmable Logic Controller), providing data to external devices, and supporting multiple communication protocols such as RS232, RS422, and RS485.
Features: It can achieve direct data transmission, intermittent data transmission, 1X amplitude and phase, 2X amplitude and phase, Not 1X, Smax, and other data transmission functions. It supports the Modbus communication protocol, adopts a 4-wire full-duplex, multi-branch structure, and has a transmission distance of up to 1220 (4000ft).
